TI's All in Wonder Pro 8MB AGP x2
Okay, you've picked out a motherboard and for it a new processor. You've got the multimedia bug so you've gone with AMD's K6-2. But what about an AGP card? Well, if you're looking to build a Multimedia Monster, we just may have an option for you.
Even before March of last year when ATI announced the first ever generation of Rage Pro graphics accelerators that were also the first graphics chips to fully supported Intel's AGP x2 specification , this Canadian based firm enjoyed a strong market share as one of the world's foremost suppliers of video and 2D/3D graphics accelerators to OEMs and retail consumers. And with just a look at the list of features included with the company's Rage Pro powered All in Wonder Pro 8MB AGP x2; TV, video and graphics accelerator in one card, that fact is hardly a "wonder" at all.
ATI has managed to incorporate on one card an "Intelligent TV Tuner", excellent 2D Windows graphics, DVD quality video playback, motion and still video capture, a full featured 3D graphics accelerator and the ability to send the display signal to your television. Adding to that list ATI worked closely with Microsoft's Windows 98 development team to ensure that All in Wonder Pro users could take full advantage of the new multimedia, entertainment and gaming functionality of Windows 98 such as D3D gaming, DVD and Web TV for Windows.
The Rage Pro chip has taken somewhat of a backseat over the last few months with several companies releasing or nearing release of their so-called next generation of graphics accelerator chips but, with drastic price reductions in both the Retail and OEM versions of this card and the maturing of the (still in beta but remarkably stable) Lonsdale OpenGL ICD for Rage Pro based graphics cards, we at The Super 7 Hardware Guide have decided to take a long hard look at a card that, although somewhat dated, may be just the ticket for AGP powering up your new multimedia monster.
