Well... I plumped for the board anyhow - turns out it has 3 DIMM sockets - which is nice.

Have a problem though - the board /will/ not boot-up when the bus speed is set to 100Mhz or 95Mhz! I'm having to run my K6-2 350 /underclocked/ (at 290Mhz) to get this board to boot with it!! Is there a fix for this somewhere? I've tried the bios update from Biostar - but no luck.

I have a AMD-K6-2 400mhz with a Biostar M5ALA version 2.0 Motherboard with a Diamond monster fusion II PCI 16mb 3dfx accelerator and 128mb sdram pc100 memory. Does anyone know how to overclock or bump the system up to around 450 mhz????Is there a better motherboard that works better with the AMD-K6-2 400?????One last ? Is this video card compatible with the processor. I have trouble once in a while with my computer just shutting off by itself and rebooting. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I need to know if the AGP bus is AGP 4x/2x compatible I've recently purchased a Diamond Viper v770 Ultra and do not know what to set the jump pins on the video card for 2x or 4x could someone answer this for me?

Not happy with this mainboard... Ver2.0 didn't support my STB 4400 TNT video card. Had to opt for the Voodoo3 2000 and is much better but hot, added a case fan. What a lemon. Wonder if the new BIOS upgrade fixed it but TOO LATE. It was a blessing though because STB DOES NOT upgrade their TNT drivers! Go with the nVidia Reference drivers.

Does anyone know if m5ala rev 1.1 supports AGP 2x. I am thinking about buying a new graphics card and some demand AGP 2x. Did anyone tried a 6400 card with this m5ala?

I was sold a M5ALA with a AMD K62 400 processor, very bad results, I would not reccommend it.

Well, on my mb 2.4V is JP1:(bottom to top) 1-2 open 3-4 open 5-6 closed 7-8 open. I don't know what version the mb is,but I got it in a machine Dec.'98. Go to the website at www.biostar.com.tw to confirm these jumper settings. I oc'ed my 350 to 400 with only the fan and heatsink by changing from 2.2 to 2.4!

I have a ver. 2 board with AMD K62 333 at 4.5 x 75 Mhz with 64 Meg PC66 RAM. It runs perfect with my Matrox G400 16M Dualhead. No weird jumper- or bios- settings

I have the M5ala version 1.1 with an AMD k62-350 and have no problems at all with this motherboard, and would recommend it as a cheap alternative to anyone on a budget, heck, this board is far more stable than the Tyan 1598s (albeit a little slower) that I had, witch I sent back. The only problem I ever had came when I installed a Diamond Monster Fusion. The system became frequently unstable until, after about two months the Monster quit working altogether. Diamond was no help at all and their tech support stinks. Now my system runs perfect with an ATI Rage Fury. armed with the revised manual and bios update, I'm thinking about plopping a K63-450 in this thing.

Brand new M5ALA, latest bios, will NOT run any chip at 100MHz FSB. lots of errors, etc. I tried 2 different sticks of PC100 memory, and 2 different K6-2 processors (400 and 450). They run great at 83MHz, but refuse to run at 100 times anything. Biostar tech support doesnt respond to email. Conclusion: don't buy this board.
