Introducing the Rise mP6 TM  

On October 13th Rise Technology unveiled at Microprocessor Forum the mP6"! family of microprocessors, the industry's first microprocessor designed from the ground up to meet the needs of the Basic PC market. Rise Technology demonstrated a number of Windows-based multimedia applications running on the mP6 microprocessor. Through its innovative design, the mP6 microprocessor is able to provide superior multimedia capabilities that were previously only available in expensive high-end performance PC's. In addition, the microprocessor's low power consumption makes it ideal for portable applications as well as Basic PC desktop systems.

The mP6"! microprocessor is an advanced CPU designed for outstanding price/performance for Windows personal systems. Its high-speed design, along with its innovative circuitry to maximize performance per clock cycle while minimizing power consumption throughout the processor, makes it an especially ideal choice for Basic PC desktop and notebook systems.

The mP6"! processor is compatible with the industry standard Socket 7 and Super Socket 7, and provides improved performance over Celeron"! and Pentium"! with MMX"! at an equivalent clock speed. This enables legacy and new systems to migrate to a better combination of price/performance/ power consumption points previously not possible. With the rapidly expanding market of more . price-conscious. customers in the consumer, educational, and small business segments, the mP6 will enable Basic PC providers to more aggressively attack those segments.

Full Windows OS and Applications compatibility, along with a full variety of host system component and motherboard compatibility has been tested by Rise and many of Rise. s industry partners and collaborators. Rise has received Platinum Certification from XXCAL, Inc.


Architectural Features

TRIPLE PIPELINED . The mP6 processor. s superpipelined superscalar architecture allows up to 3 integer or 3 MMX instructions or 2 floating point operations per clock cycle. This dramatically increases throughput for the broadest variety of leading edge applications, such as 3D games, video conferencing, soft DVD, and soft modems.

DYNAMIC ALLOCATION OF RESOURCES . Improves the typical approach to superscalar designs by allowing each of the mP6 processor. s address generators, execution units, etc. to be allocated to various pipelines further increasing throughput per clock cycle.

DUAL INSTRUCTION STREAM EXECUTION . Allows for instructions to be decoded from 3 and issued from 2 different instruction streams simultaneously.

REDUCING PIPELINE STALLS . Register Remapping, Operand Forwarding, Result Forwarding, Zero Cycle Data Bypass, Arithmetic Pairing, along with Advanced Branch Prediction Algorithms are all used to maximize instruction throughput.

Power Management Features

INDUSTRY STANDARD COMPATIBILITY - The mP6 processor is instruction and pin compatible to the Intel Pentium implementation of System Management Mode (SMM), Stop Grant State, Auto Halt Powerdown State, and Stop Clock State. It is also compliant to the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) specification.

INNOVATIVE POWER MANAGEMENT DESIGN - Rise has developed and implemented a number of techniques in the mP6 processor to judiciously enable and disable various circuitry throughout the processor depending on the application running. This dramatically reduces power requirements in the mP6 over the competition (at equivalent voltage/speed/process technology).


FEATURED PACKAGES - The mP6 is available in two packages, a 387-pin BGA and a 296-pin Super Socket 7 and Socket 7 compatible BPGA.
